Living in Boston can leave you limited on funds, space, and storage. Investing in low-cost space-saving appliances is a game-changer. This is why I chose to purchase a mini rice cooker four years ago.
The best mini rice cooker I have used is my mini rice cooker from DCIGNA.
This mini rice cooker has truly stood the test of time in terms of product quality, usefulness, and most importantly space-saving!
DCIGNA 1.2L/5 Cups Mini Rice Cooker (4-year test)
This versatile little rice cooker and electric lunchbox has been my tried and true rice cooker for over four years now. I love it because it is fast and absolutely perfect for a small apartment. It is still going strong and both myself and my roommate use it several times a week.
Besides the space-saving benefits, I love this rice cooker because it does what I need it to do in less time and is far less costly than a standard rice cooker.

How does it work?
You can easily have a freshly cooked meal in as little as 15-20 minutes (depending on the amount of rice). It also has a handle if you desire to take it to work with you since it is also considered an electronic lunchbox.
Preparing some rice is super easy. After thoroughly rinsing your rice, just add an inch of water above the rice (a good ratio is one cup rice and two cups water), secure the lid, and simply push the button. When it is done, it will light up to indicate it’s in the ‘keep warm’ stage. You are all set!
It makes an ideal amount of rice for 1-2 people and I would argue even 3 because I often have leftovers.
I typically use my own mini rice cooker to strictly cook rice, but there is so much more you can do. When I purchased the rice cooker, I read reviews where people made soup, stews, beans, grains/pasta, oatmeal, and more. Be creative!
The rice cooker also comes with the option to use a steaming pan that is placed on top of the rice. This allows you to steam vegetables while cooking rice at the same time.
Appliance care tips and advice?
The coating on the removable pot has a PFOA-free nonstick coating. After four years, the coating on mine is still intact.
To protect yours, I highly suggest that you avoid using metal cooking utensils to scoop out your rice. I typically use my wooden spoons or the plastic rice paddle that comes with it. FYI the rice cooker comes with a rice paddle and measuring cup for your convenience.
If you want the coating on your pot to last like mine has, just be gentle when you are scooping out your rice. I’ve always tried not to aggressively scrape the pot.
The pot itself is dishwasher safe but personally, I have always hand-washed mine so I can’t speak to how well it holds up in the dishwasher over time. It is very easy to hand-wash. Simply let it soak in some hot water and soap for a few minutes before washing.
Final thoughts?
Overall, I couldn’t recommend this product enough if you are looking for the best mini rice cooker that won’t take up a ton of space. I can easily tuck it away in a cupboard when I am not using it.
After using this rice cooker for four years, I give it a 5/5! It makes cooking rice a breeze and has worked wonders for meal prepping.
